Juno DNA Sequencer

Fluidigm, 2015

Project goals

The goal was to design an efficient, user-friendly and cost-effective enclosure and user interface for Fluidigm's DNA sequencing instrument.

I designed a robust hinge and gas shock system that makes the instrument easy to service, and redesigned the sample loading door.

Effortless opening. Optimize the gas shock position to create a mechanical advantage, so the user needs minimal force to open the aluminum housing.
A simpler door. Reduce the door's total part count and eliminate binding issues.
Tight packaging. Manage cabling and cable routing in an instrument with very high packing density.
