Wearable Power System

Ardica, 2014

Role: Assisting Mechanical Engineer
Company: IDE
Volume: 1,000

Project goals

Ardica's wearable power system is a hydrogen fuel cell battery pack for the military. The redesign aimed to reduce its weight and cost while improving reliability and manufacturability.

My role

I designed the rugged reaction chamber and its lid assembly.

Design challenges

Built for the field. Design an ergonomic reaction chamber lid that could withstand the wear and tear of harsh military use.
Extreme temperatures. Perform tolerance stack-up and thermal expansion analysis on every part, accounting for external temperatures as low as −50 °C and internal temperatures up to 200 °C.
