AlpenGlow Mini Lantern

BioLite, 2022

Role: Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Lead
Company: BioLite
Volume: 50,000

Project goals

BioLite's AlpenGlow lanterns were already a popular series. The AlpenGlow Mini set out to bring that experience into a smaller, backpacking-friendly lantern without giving up a competitive runtime.

Design challenges

Even light, long runtime. Achieving smooth, even light distribution while preserving runtime took careful tuning of the diffuser's material, thickness and additives.
Hang it anywhere. We developed a system that lets the lantern hang from several different points, so it adapts to whatever environment it's used in.
Big battery, small package. The lantern integrates a 1,000 mAh lithium-ion battery that delivers up to 40 hours of runtime on low, all within a compact form factor.
