Solar Home System

BioLite, 2021

Role: Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Lead
Company: BioLite
Volume: 250,000

Project goals

The Solar Home Suite (625, 1025 and 1550) is an update to BioLite's SH620+ solar home system. The updated system needed to house either a 25 Wh (2S1P) or a 50 Wh (2S2P) battery pack and safely store larger mobile devices.

Design challenges

Cost reduction. Reduce the product's cost of goods by 20%.
One control box, two battery packs. Design a control box that accommodates both battery pack configurations while still passing all of the previous environmental tests, including drop.
Vendor transition. Move the entire Solar Home product line over to a new vendor.
PLM rollout. Pilot a PLM system to manage more than 18 SKUs.
