Measuring Utensils

OXO Utensils, 2020

Role: Sr. Mechanical Engineer, Lead
Company: P9
Volume: 175,000

Project goals

OXO's Good Grips measuring cups and spoons were drawing negative customer reviews for their pad-printed markings and their storage solution. This update set out to fix both.

Design challenges

A snap that does both jobs. Develop a snap that lets users separate the cups and spoons easily, yet holds the set firmly together when it's tossed into a kitchen drawer.
Dialing in the tolerances. Identify an ideal snap force, with minimum and maximum limits, that meets the manufacturer's requirements.
An invisible snap. Design a snap that blends seamlessly into the form, so it's invisible to the user.
