Pixel Molecular Counter

Cellular Research, 2014

Company: IDE
Volume: 500

Overview

Cellular Research's Pixel system performs molecular indexing, identifying and counting single molecules, genes, chromosomes and other genetic material in very small quantities.

My role

This was one of my very first tasks at IDE. The system used an off-the-shelf Toshiba Encore Windows 8 tablet, and I designed a mechanism to actuate its power button. A low-cost solenoid triggers a cantilevered arm that physically powers on the tablet, and a modular cradle holds the tablet and solenoid securely while making future tablet upgrades easy to integrate.
